History

The Wyeth Foundation for American Art was formed as a Delaware non-profit corporation in 2002 as a result of the foresight and generosity of Andrew N. Wyeth and Betsy James Wyeth. The Foundation, based in Wilmington, Delaware, applied for and was granted tax exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service as an organization described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code on January 10, 2003.

Since that time the Foundation has provided over $25,000,000 in financial support for major fellowship programs, educational initiatives, scholarly gatherings and lectures, exhibitions, publications, and conservation and preservation efforts related to the field of American art.

Mission

The Wyeth Foundation for American Art is dedicated to advancing excellence in American art and championing the art and legacy of the Wyeth family.

The Wyeth Foundation for American Art encourages the study, appreciation, and recognition of excellence in American art.  The Foundation supports selected programs of scholarship, research, conservation, and exhibitions with institutions and other non-profit organizations that are consistent with this mission.  The Foundation does not support grant applications exclusively focused on art of the last three decades or living artists.

In particular, the Foundation provides financial support for a number of pre- and post-graduate fellowship programs in American art, scholarly publications in American art, conservation of important works of American art, and innovative exhibitions and educational programs centered on American art.
